Along the coast the ancient watchtowers

After the looting of the Pisans in 1268, the inhabitants began to build new houses on the spur of rock near the seaside village.

And the town continued to grow upwards, for defensive reasons in the following centuries, when pirate raids became more and more frequent. Signified in time by the numerous towers built since the Angevin era and then strengthened and multiplied by the Aragonese: the Torre della Sponda, the oldest, the Torre Trasita from the viceregal era, the coeval Torre Fornillo, which from a spur of rock dominates the homonymous beach and the Torre di Renzo, near the beach of Arienzo, purchased in 1915 by the Russian writer Semënov.
